Ginette McDonald is a legend of stage and screen in New Zealand. Her comic creation, “Lyn of Tawa” has recently been rightly celebrated – once again – in the TV documentary series and accompanying book, Funny As. She has worked on stage and screen extensively, and either side of the creation of the Lyn of Tawa character.
She is about to tread the boards at Circa Theatre in the upcoming production of The Pink Hammer – and so it was a great thrill for me to get to finally meet Ginette (having seen her on TV and many times on stage and indeed about the streets of Wellington) and to talk through aspects of her life and career.
We nabbed this time in the Circa Green Room as rehearsals were starting for the new play. Ginette’s dog was there too.
I loved the chance to meet and chat with New Zealand acting royalty. This is a snapshot of a life too big to fit in one frame. I hope you enjoy hearing it.
