Sweetman Podcast # 181: Marek Peszynski

Welcome to episode 181 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T, Yeastie Boys and La Petite Chocolat.

Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library.

I first met Marek Peszynski nearly 20 years ago. We worked together for The CD Store chain. Marek became the manager of a dedicated vinyl store – Chelsea Records. He was also an influential DJ and tastemaker around town. Nowadays he is the Marketing Manager for Orchestra Wellington. He still DJs. He’s also an occasional tour promoter, a father and family man and a collector of records, sneakers, pop-cultural artefacts and pop-art.

This was my first time sitting down to get Marek’s full story. It starts in Auckland as a music-obsessed kid, growing up in a famil of great hi-fi equipment. And from DJing the school social on a CD player and tapedeck to playing Rhythm and Vines as part of the production duo Eastern Bloc and recently opening for The Streets, Marek has worked in music for life. He’s been a record buyer for music stores, helping in compiling reissues and now uses those experiences and expertise to coordinate things like Orchestra Wellington’s recent double LP.

It was just a couple of weeks back that I visited Marek in his Wellington home and once the dishwasher completed its cycle we got to talking through so many of his great stories from a life in music. I loved this conversation.

I hope you enjoy hearing it too.

Here now is episode 181 of Sweetman Podcast – my chat with Marek Peszynski
