Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library to access each new episode; or via Anchor/FM you can get the podcast on Stitcher and other key platforms. So thanks for checking it out.
I had a conversation with Marc Taddei. He is a conductor and musician. He is the music director for Orchestra Wellington and is now concurrently serving as the musical director for the Vallejo Symphony.
This was my first time meeting Marc but I’ve been a fan of his work and much of the music he presides over for many years. I regularly get along to see Orchestra Wellington and I’ve wanted to talk to Marc for some time. We’d chatted earlier about making it happen and missed one opportunity previously so this was finally a huge treat.
And it was thrilling to hear Taddei’s story of studying at Julliard, auditioning for the NZSO successfully and moving to New Zealand from America (his place of birth) to take up that position. He’s been here ever since. From the ENZSO recordings – as a player – through to conducting some of New Zealand’s greatest musicians and many of the world’s, Marc has seen and heard many great things. His contribution to music is towering. His energy is palpable. And it was wonderful to get to know him through this conversation.
The show we reference often in this conversation was Orchestra Wellington’s final program for 2018 – you can click there to read my review (it’ll give you the names of the pieces and some of the key players and the composers at the least).
Orchestra Wellington has recently released a double vinyl LP – which we talked about too.
I loved having this conversation and so – as always – I hope you enjoy hearing it.
