Did I think I’d make it to 150 when I started this podcast? I had no number in mind. So we continue…
Thanks for listening if and when you do.
Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library to access each new episode; or via Anchor/FM you can get the podcast on Stitcher and other key platforms. So thanks for checking it out.
This week – the first new episode for a new year – I talked to Delia Shanly. We did record this conversation at the very end of 2018. But the aim was always for the start of 2019 since one of the things Delia does is help to organise the Wellington event, Gardens Magic. This year is the 40th anniversary of Summer City in Wellington and a happy 150th to not just this podcast but to the beaut Botanical Gardens, we’re nearly a full week into events there with two more to go.
When Delia’s not organising nearly a month worth of shows at Wellington’s botanics she’s sometimes playing the drums (with Milkthistle, Darren Watson and Matt Hay and the Makers). She’s also been heavily involved in arts-admin across much of the last 25 years. From performing herself to working in film and music as, variously, a creative producer, event coordinator, publicist, promoter and many other roles, wearing many hats.
So Delia and I sat down to talk through all of this as well as her time behind the kit, playing drums and percussion in covers bands and making original music – there’s even a story involving the NZSO.
It was great to get this all down on tape. I hope you enjoy hearing it too.
