Been thinking about this show a bit lately – what with the announcement that Cornell is returning to play another solo acoustic gig. It was good. Really good actually. And I was up in the air about it before hand. I gave it a good review though, because you couldn’t be cross at the effort/material – unless you’ve never liked Chris Cornell at all. And unless you’re a reviewer, or you have friends who love Chris Cornell but hate you there’s really no reason to be at a Chris Cornell gig unless you’re a fan.
His fans are a bit special though. I remember getting some abuse for being slightly critical – the gig was, if anything, too long. Strange point to pick at perhaps, but I really believe that a lot of shows are slightly too long and that if you leave a bit early you can make them even better. Also Cornell indulged his own whim at least one time too many with the covers. No one needs to hear another version of John Lennon’s Imagine. Fucking ghastly song, that.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
