I can’t believe I’ve held on to some movie tickets – but I did love this film, Neil Young’s Year of the Horse; saw it first at the Wellington Film Festival in 1998, on the giant screen at the Embassy – in fact I’ve already written about it here, as one of the Movies of My Life.
After that initial screening I went on to watch it a bunch of times, on DVD – and then online also.
That Sunday morning though, that first watch, parked up, a bit hungover, some popcorn and a big movie-coke, only a couple of dozen people in the theatre I think…well probably a few more than that. But all of us fans. Obviously. And it was like a concert – an almost private concert.
When Neil Young is rockin’ on the Horse it doesn’t matter what the material is, or where it comes from. It all goes toward transcendent.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
