I like De La Soul as much as you do – I presume you like De La Soul. You should. There’s no reason not to. But I’ve seen them a few times and I’m not sure I get the fuss around seeing them live – a good fun vibe, sure. But I’d rather listen to that handful of fun albums – particularly the first three.
Of the few times I’ve seen De La Soul though, this was the best. Well, best and yet it could have been better. Was odd to have them at the Opera House, a “seated” gig turned general admission. Everybody stood. For the entire show.
It didn’t take long for audience members to end up on the stage actually.
This was billed as the 20th Anniversary tour, celebrating 20 years since the band’s classic debut album.
I remember having to walk downtown on the day to get my “Media Pass” this included the laminate you can see on the right there – and the generic ticket. I’m there to review shows, not flash media passes not angle for any time backstage. So I’m always baffled, bemused even when I receive any sort of media pass. But sometimes it happens. It always feels weird.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
