I was pumped for this one! Just the other week we checked out The Big Lebowski at The Roxy cinema. I was stoked to see that – and even more stoked to see they were doing something else pretty cool so soon after. This time a whole mid-winter Christmas mini film-festival. And as part of it the movie Misery. I’ve always loved this film – but had never seen it on the big screen. It might have been the first Stephen King adaptation I saw, and if it wasn’t it was in the first few, and definitely the one that made the most impact. Funnily enough I had never read the book until just this week. I rewatch the film a few months back – introducing Oscar to it. He loved it too. And then I read the book this week – figuring it was a case of now or never. Great book. One of King’s best, and a super-great re-entry into the world of Stephen King for me; I’ve been eager to get back into reading some of his stuff for a while now. Hadn’t quite known where to start. Anyway, the movie…still a revelation. Perfect cast and crew – a dream team of A-listers, from the source material down to the scriptwriter, director, DP. Everything. The supporting players are great, but really it’s the two hander of trapped author and crazed fan. And it’s just wonderful. I love how The Roxy is giving us these treats. Me and my good buddy and my son Oscar went along to it. We’ve formed a wee horror movie gang actually. And this was our first outing, as such. Also Oscar’s first ever big-screen horror movie experience. Big ticks all around!
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
