What a strange year 2020 has turned out to be. It started off weirdly enough. There I am at a fucking Queen concert! (And mostly enjoying it). Next thing there are no concerts at all ever again. No visitors. No tours. And every musician is having a massive spit about loss of income this and how the world needs its music that.
We bought tickets to Queen the night before the show. And had very good seats down the back but with enough of a view and straight on – looking at the giant screens. Oscar really wanted to go and he paid for half of his ticket with money saved over Christmas. And so we went. Walked down and back. And loved it. I do love a stadium gig. It’s different. You’re allowed to get swept up in it all – even if you’re not a massive fan of the act. It’s a bit different to going and seeing your favourite band in a small venue. Though sometimes you’re seeing your favourite band in the big arena.
Queen has never been my favourite band but I do like some of what they’re about and some of the songs and Oscar is such a fan that it’s hard not to let that rub off. Why deny that. I went as a guardian. But I left as a bit of a fan once again. Hard not to with this sort of setlist.
Now it stands as the big gig of 2020.
Very, very frightening!
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
