Emily Writes wrote the book and then it was turned into the amazing play/show – and head of that 2019 run (and it went around the country to various spots – no luck this years, thanks Covid) it was trialed with a workshop-styled short season; they sought feedback and made a few changes.
I got along to the opening night of the initial run – I would eventually get along to see it in its more polished state (and that review is up in the link above). But actually I sorta loved this first night of the first run the very most. The changes made were correct and the right thing to do and the shorter run time was of benefit but I appreciated seeing it in the raw form – it had such a visceral and feel-good vibe to it. The audience was on the side of the writer, and the performers and that was felt from the get-go. It was quite a thing to be a part of actually; we (the audience) really did feel part of it.
Very special theatre.
Looking forward (he says optimistically) to some theatre coming back into my life again. And soon.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
