An intriguing musical collaboration – and one that has worked so they’ve repeated it – and when I say repeated it, it’s always a little different. But the classically trained pianist and the big-band leader and trombonist really do find some strange alchemy – on record and in performance. I’ve seen them a few times now and it always works. And perhaps it shouldn’t. And that’s the best kind of “collaboration” I reckon – where a new strength is realised that wouldn’t have come out on its own; a new sound, a new strain, new ideas, something different – and yet you can link it straight back to the separate vestiges.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
