It’s hazy – but this was a 50th Birthday party I think. And there were a few local bands and solo acts and things and I missed a fair bit of it – but also I was on the bill. And my son, Oscar, was one week old I think. Or two weeks old max. I remember within the first month of his life being away with a gig or out late every weekend – I played some drums with the Irish band up in Levin and Palmerston and I did this gig as a DJ – one of my first times playing records in public probably. I was the last thing – the “after-party” aspect. And of course everyone left almost as soon as I played the first record. Or certainly by the third. You can write your own story there as to whether that was people getting older and leaving at the end of the night or if it was the sleep-deprived amateur-hour DJ doing a shit job. Probably a bit of both eh…anyway I still have my “Backstage Pass” from the night. Makes a good bookmark now. Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
