*Disclaimer: I hate the Comedy Festival and this is the only show I’m attending – that said it was fucking tremendous.
That’s how I closed my review of James Acaster last year. No disrespect to him – only disrespect for the institution of the Comedy Festival and my long, laboured, frustrating history with it. These days I go to one show only, or not even – this year I didn’t bother. But I was certainly glad to step out of the house to see James Acaster, a comedian I’d heard plenty about and heard on podcasts and read about and so on – but never seen. He was incredible. Electric. Dynamic. Certainly very impressive.
Shiny ticket too. Very flash!
But fuck the comedy festival and the uptight Kiwi comedy brigade too.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
