People tell you that you have preconceived ideas, they hold that against you – they have preconceived ideas about you of course, but can’t see that irony. You tell them I loved Pounamu – and yet I had hated the previous collaboration between Warren Maxwell and John Psathas. You tell them that Warren never sounded so good at Pounamu in fact, his writing and his singing – the perfect setting, the perfect treatment. It was wonderful. That doesn’t get him off the hook – the latest TrinityRoots album is horrible; you’re sure of that. Psathas has gone on to make more great music including this film score. And will make more great stuff too. Maxwell might also.
It’s day by day, play by play. Good gets good reviews. Bad doesn’t. The cream has to rise to the top. That’s the only rule. And you’re there to say so – when it’s what you think.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
