This dude called Dallas Green goes under the name City and Colour and he makes okay-music, like you can see what he’s trying to do and it’s nicely put together, good players backing him but every fucking song sounds pretty much the same, like one or two different things only.
Anyway, I was going along, curious to see it live – and it was good live, better than on the record I think…
What cracks me up about this gig – just before Christmas a couple of years ago – is that the publicist asked me to do a ticket giveaway and I did – and then she came back to me saying that it hadn’t sold that well and to save face they were ‘papering’ the joint, filling it up however they could; did I want some tickets for mates and could I get in touch with the competition entrants and offer them all a ticket. It was nuts – I think I accounted for about 40 free seats. We had a row, I know that much, with about 12-20 of us, then there were other blog-winners too…
Flash forward to just over two years later and I can’t get a reply to an email from that same publicist, I don’t get any press releases from her, even to gigs I’d love and would promote the shit out of.
It’s a weird (read: pathetic) industry really init…?!
(And the City and Colour gig was okay. Not great, but not at all shit).
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
