I was a big Ryan Adams fan for quite a while, then not so much, then not at all…but he won me back around, or at least I returned. I liked the self-titled album and that had me keen to see him again (the first time I saw him live was rather ho-hum, though by the feeling in the audience I might have been the only one who thought that). But a problem this year arrived in a Blanket Ban from Frontier Touring. Doesn’t matter what I do – preview and plug their shows, interview their artists, review the albums, I am not allowed at their shows (yep, last year they even used an interview I did with an artist in their promo, then wouldn’t let me near the show – go figure). Well, my son Oscar bought me a ticket to see Ryan Adams, since the show was on my birthday. A wonderful birthday gift.
Was thinking that I’d just go along and (hopefully) enjoy it. But I’m somewhat conditioned; sorta just used to writing about things I see and hear and do. So I wrote a review of the gig. And half a year on it (easily) made the list of best gigs of the year for me. It was a ripper.
I mean check out that setlist. About as perfect as a Ryan Adams gig in 2015 could be.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
