I don’t really need to be writing about this gig again – so soon – because I wrote enough about it here (and it was very recent; still a recent – decent – memory) but I loved it so much and the real reason I’m adding it to the ‘stubs’ file so soon is because it’s a different coloured ticket – and from a gig I travelled to.
But also I was having a conversation with someone just the other day about this, another traveller up there and at the gig on a whim. He wasn’t fussed with it, whereas I had loved it, had told him that Laura Marling was stunning – such a better guitar player than I’d perhaps figured or at least given credit for, and that voice, those songs, the sympathetic backing band, the great venue…and so I was saying all this and he said, “nah”. He reckoned he never cared much for “the English folk thing” having grown up more with American country/country-rock type of stuff. He said “it’s very much the baggage you end up bringing to stuff isn’t it?” And I agreed. When in fact I totally disagree.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
