I had been a fan of Jan Hellriegel back in the day – when that first album came out we heard it, and liked it. It was a big deal. And then when she released a new album – after a long time away from making music (or at least releasing music) I was into it too. Good album. And I had a few chats with her – formal and informal interviewing. But it was a real treat when she came to Wellington to perform a cabaret-styled show at the St. James – in that big mezzanine foyer. It worked really well. At one point in the show I got a dedication – which blew me away really. And then after we met the band and had drinks with them and celebrated. Not the usual thing for me to do at all.
I’ve mentioned this already of course – because as Katy put it so well, “you better remember that one, that’s as good as it’s ever going to get for you in your line of work”.
