Stubs: #165 – Billy Bragg, Wellington, 2014

bbgadThere aren’t many people I’ve seen more than once where I can say that every gig was great and each one was (noticeably, crucially) different. But Billy Bragg is one. For sure. Seen him three times now, every gig is to promote a new album – which helps. But also the line-up/format. First time was the (“traditional”) solo appearance. Second time he did a sit-down, acoustic first half, singing his touched-up treatments of Woody Guthrie songs and third time – this time – was with a band. A bit of solo stuff in there, a bit of Woody stuff in there, a hits set – but also that great (then new) album too. In fact, now I think about it I’ve interviewed Bragg twice and both chats were good.

Class act.
BillyBragg14Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
