It can’t be often you get to see two of the best gigs you could ever see in one night – well it happened to me once. Same band too – Kraftwerk playing their classic albums through one by one. Eight albums across four nights, two shows a night and I got to hear the first two – told you about Autobahn already which was the highlight, particularly because each show repeated the same run of encore-hits. But I’ve always had a soft spot for the Radio-Activity album. Well, in recent years at least. There were other albums I’d have loved to have heard, of course, but I was pushing my luck asking for comps to two shows back-to-back. Pushing my luck big time.
I wrote up a bunch of reviews and commentary for the people at The Vivid Festival. Never heard back from them. The following year they sent a couple of Kiwis over who wrote one or two lines only. I’ve never been good at playing those sorts of PR games. I’m too honest, or something. (Probably something). Still, I got to see one of my favourite bands playing two of my favourite albums on one night in Sydney’s Opera House. It was pretty incredible. The shows in 3D too. Amazing. I hate 3D movies. But the 3D animations worked perfectly as the backdrop (moving into the foreground) for a band like Kraftwerk. (Full gig review here).
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
