I loved Lionel Richie when I was young – which means my folks were fans, I remember the records (his solo ones, and the great music from the Commodores – I couldn’t always tell the difference) around the house; tapes for the car-trips too…and then I arrived back at Lionel a few years ago. An adult. A fan. A fan for life – perhaps. I’ve copped some grief for publicly admitting to being a fan. But he’s a great songwriter. A smooth singer. And a great performer – it was certainly a great live show.
One of my Top 10 shows of the year. Perhaps it helped that I had interviewed him earlier, and it’s (still) one of my favourite interviews.
Might be uncool to dig Lionel. But I’ve never been cool – so that’s fine. Lionel, however, has been cool. In fact I think he’s sure he still is.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
