I’ve seen Dragon a few times – and never by choice. Often they’ve been part of the bill, package tours at vineyards and such. The newspaper hardly ever covers Kiwi acts, they’re not deemed worthy. A great shame I reckon. But I was asked to review Dragon’s 40th Anniversary Tour – so I did.
There are a small handful of “classic” Dragon songs, it would be churlish to not acknowledge them. But I’ve always thought this band was overrated – okay, so I never saw the real version of the band on the stage, it’s only ever been this Tribute Act To Itself. But even on record I don’t think they’re all that much.
And this concert was a bit of a snooze fest with a dumb crowd full of pissed up panel beaters.
Hello Sailor was great though, an opening act that easily, effortlessly outclassed the headliners.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
