Stubs: #101 – Roger Hodgson, Wellington, 2010

HodgsHe is The Voice of Supertramp – Roger Hodgson – and I spoke to The Voice of Supertramp and he was earnest, but that didn’t quite prepare me for the show. There were potted plants, fake ones, on either side and his brand new album – shit songs! – played before and after, and during the interval, and there were flyers for this new album on the seats ready when you sat down.

He did play lots of Supertramp songs, it was just him at the keys and 12-string and a sax player straight out of the 1980s who played percussion also.

Fuck it was horrible.

People there, Supertramp fans, logically, loved it.

I felt cold. Numb.

He looked, and sounded, a bit like Geddy Lee.
RogerStubStubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.

I saw his show in Byron Bay, along with 10cc. I liked both of those bands back in their day, but I agree, this version was awful. They’ve put me off 10cc as well.

This was from 2010 and you are writing about it again in 2015? Out of new ideas, are we? Perhaps if you felt “cold and numb” you should have your blood circulation and pulse checked with a doctor since everyone else I saw at Roger’s show was singing, dancing and having the time of their life. I can’t wait to see him in concert again. People travel from all over the world to see his show. Is it you who has a problem? Also, next time try to improve your journalistic vocabulary besides using the word “fuck.” Or maybe I should not expect more from you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fVQ2Rq2U0o
