Following on from a very solid first announcement – featuring the likes of Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige and De La Soul – the return of Soulfest in 2015 sees a final
international artist announcement adding Lauryn Hill and Miguel. And where Talib Kweli was on the original poster it’s now been upgraded to the duo Black Star – Kweli with Mos Def.
Last year’s inaugural festival boasted a strong line-up but this year’s one seems (even) more impressive.
The inclusion of Kamasi Washington (see here for my earlier piece previewing his monstrous – and monstrously good – triple-album) makes this a must-see for me. We’re not likely to have him down this way again.
But actually it’s an embarrassment of riches – and there’s local acts still to be announced.
Soulfest takes place across two stages at Auckland’s Western Springs this Labour Weekend on Monday, October 26, 12pm-10pm –
