This month I talked about two records from artists that have written their own songs but were here paying tribute to one other living songwriter. Tribute albums – but with the songs rearranged to suit the style of the new singer.
First up was Stand For Myself by Yola and I played the song Diamond Studded Shoes.
Next up was the new album by Los Lobos, Native Sons. This is a covers project, a tribute to the city of Los Angeles. So I played their version of the old Don & Dewey garage staple, Farmer John. (It’s been covered by The Premiers, The Searchers and Neil Young among others and has been in Los Lobos’ concert repertoire for some 35 years).
