About once a month or so I have a long chat on RNZ about a particular music or a theme – for their regular Tuesday music features. Over the last two years, I’ve been slowly building up a chat on each of The Beatles. It was time to talk Paul McCartney (I’ve only got John to go now and will hopefully get to him before the end of the year). But what to say about Sir Paul that hasn’t been said a million times or more?
I decided to focus not just on his post-Beatles work but on the weirder side. Along with all the huge pop hits and ubiquitous schmaltz there’s a strange, wonderful body of work that he’s built almost on the sly, showing he is forever interested in experimenting, still curious, hungry, still searching.
So that’s the stuff I played and talked about – and if you missed it you can listen to the full chat right here. And see below for just the songs I played and in the order I played them).
