Real Groovy Records: In-store DJ Set (Saturday, October 24)

Real Groovy-asIf you check out Cheese on Toast you’ll know already that Real Groovy in Auckland has weekend guest DJs – two slots per day, someone on the decks from 11am-1pm and then another from 1-3pm, Saturdays and Sundays. You might know that already from visiting the store, but it’s Cheese on Toast (and Andrew Tidball in particular) coordinating this.

Next weekend, Saturday, October 24, I’m going to be manning the decks for the Saturday morning/midday slot of 11am-1pm.Cheese-as

I’m in Auckland to visit family (and was planning on attending Soulfest – but now, no chance) so I’m dragging a bag (or two) of records up with me to play in the shop. A visit to Real Groovy has always been part of the Auckland pilgrimage for me, and a chance to play some music there – to be in control of what everyone in the store is hearing – is going to be a real treat. (I DJ’d at Wellington’s Real Groovy once, had a great time – R.I.P Wellington Real Groovy).

So, not sure what I’ll fit on the plane with me, record-wise, might be a few more 45s than usual…but I’m thinking some jazz, soul, R’n’B and a bit of 70s/80s cheese. In other words: just the usual…

If you’re in Auckland next weekend come and say hi, support the record store, check out some tunes.
