Puss N Boots
For many reasons.
First of, Puss No Boots is fantastic. Here we have three great writers, singers, musicians combining their talents. Second of all they only bug us with an EP of Xmas songs, they don’t over-egg the nog.
Thirdly they hit all the right notes here – creating a different type of Christmas song for different listeners.
We start with the cool country groove of Christmas All Over Again – a nice new lilt. Then if you want something more morose, a little more moody there’s The Great Romancer.
Humour is on the cards too with Christmas Butt, a mid-tempo rocker that sounds a wee bit like a Pretenders song (“shake that Christmas butt”).
It’s Not Christmas ‘Till You Come Home is the resident weepy. Those gorgeous voices in a live setting. And then for something traditional we have the EP-closer, Silent Night. Here Dobson, Jones and Popper sound fantastic together – bringing something new (classy, but definitely low key and relaxed) to a song you thought you never needed to hear again.
Look, I’m no big advocate for Christmas tunes but if you’re in a family setting where it’s a requirement this little EP might just bring some sanity while ticking the box.
