Poem: “It Was Like Watching Myself Die”

Kate Bush only did one tour – she conceived and
choreographed it, each song a performance,
costume change and a whole new character – she
handpicked the band, created the arrangements, devised
the show and directed the performance from
the stage – picked the lighting, everything.

She was about 20 years old and had come from nowhere
to release two albums in the same year.

That one tour was filmed for a documentary and concert
movie. There was a live mini-album – just four songs
chosen from the 29 shows. This was 1979.
She didn’t tour again. The gaps between albums grew.

And between 1993 and 2005 there was nothing
for us to see or hears.

She raised her son and lived a life; the rare second chance.

They say there are no second acts but
in 2011 she again made two albums in one year.
And then not that long after she returned to the stage –
a voyeur yet again at another glorious funeral.
