In horror movies there’s always a way to bring
the villain back – not least because the villain
is actually the hero. This is the secret. To
horror movies, not life. In life you can never
go back, you shouldn’t go back – you leave
a place or finish a job or a relationship ends and
that is the way the story finishes. Sequels never
work as well – in life. But in horror films we
really only care and return to the ones where
there are sequels. The more sequels the better
the franchise, even as the quality of the films
continues to suffer. It’s a fascinating world,
the world of horror films that is – and that’s
why I’m held captive; victim to the horror films,
to the various franchises, to some of the
standalones too. They let me go back, they encourage it.
They reward it. You can’t buy that loyalty or reward
system many other places. Horror movies are a sport,
a club, a gang. But I walk alone, stuck in the loop.
