Well, the Paul McCartney concert is, er, Coming Up… I’m not going this time – I still have fond memories of seeing him in Auckland back on Saturday, March 27th in 1993. It was a great gig – one of my first big stadium shows, and one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen. A huge thrill to hear the music from my life – Beatles, Wings, solo…on reflection he played even more of Off The Ground (the new album of the time) than I remembered – but that’s okay. The album is no classic but it gets the tick because it’s linked to this gig, I still give it a whirl once a year or so and forgive even the lazy Helen Wheels-rewrite that is Biker Like An Icon – but then again you’re always allowed to rip yourself off.
Anyway, I’ve made up a playlist from the set that night back in 1993. Macca always plays ‘The Hits’ but with so many there are a few that roll in and out each tour. His new setlist is different to this one but plenty of the staples will always be there obviously. It might be a better band, might even be a better setlist this time around – and I hope that his voice is good enough and that everyone going gets what they want from it. It’ll be great.
Paul releases a live album at the end of nearly every tour anyway, but it was fun to dig back through and include the original recordings of the songs here.
Check it out…
