Nik Cohn: The Noise From The Streets

cohnThe Noise From The Streets: A Musical Journey in Nine Key Dates

Nik Cohn

Amazon Digital Services, Inc.

I was revisiting the great work of Nik Cohn just recently – in anticipation, I guess, for the reissue of his first great piece of music writing. But, his work’s never far from my mind. This Kindle Single has been part of theStreets revisiting, part of the reminding that Cohn – at his best – is a must-read. Here he evokes the journey of discovering music via the retracing of actual footsteps, of where he was living and what he was doing when he was turned on to some of the crucial music in his life.

It’s a single-session read but it’s one to return to, one that gives more than just the feeling of an off-cut or set of small asides, there’s depth in anything and everything that Cohn writes. And if you’re a fan of his work you’ll want to Noise from the Streets to your collection. It’s possibly a very good entry point too, certainly accessible.
