I’ve just published my new e-book. My first of pure creative writing rather than any journalism. It’s called With You, Shortly – Little fictions and is a set of short stories, some very short, flash fiction, micro-fiction, prose poems, call them what you will. Just don’t call them late for dinner. Etc.
I’ve been writing my short stories on and off for about 20 years – I think the oldest ones in this volume – about two or three – date back to 2000/2001, possibly there’s even one from the late-1990s. Some of these started out as poems, or became poems. Some of them actually are poems hiding in story form. (Many of my poems are stories hiding in poem form after all).
The shortest story here is one sentence. The longest is a few pages. A few thousand words. I don’t know exactly. I haven’t quite counted.
The newest story in this collection would have been written sometime this year. Many of them appear, in various versions, on my website right here. But it was fun to group them together, to order them. To make a collection. I have been very inspired by Lydia Davis. The way she follows up a 10-page story with a two-sentence one. And vice-versa.
The cover image was designed by my wife Katy. The photo is one I took in Maui, Hawaii two years ago.
You can check out my Amazon page to see the three other e-books available (and my book of poetry is available to international readers via that page too).
You can even rate and review it on Goodreads.
I hope you like these weird little stories. I think they’re fun. Sometimes funny. Also dark and disturbing too. As I say in the blurb to describe the e-book:
Bad flatmates. Paid to watch porn. Jazz murders. And plenty of downsides too…
You can buy it now for the low-low price of $2.99 US.
