Verb Wellington is bringing poet Luke Wright to the capital city this coming Monday, May 13. I’ve just recently finished reading Luke Wright’s volume The Toll – and it contains six or seven of the very best poems I’ve ever read. Which is a phenomenal strike-rate. He has aspects of Stewart Lee and Roger McGough to his performance style and mind – and he is a master of many poetry styles.
So his show is likely to be a must-see event.
So we’re super lucky to have the chance to see him in Wellington ahead of his Auckland performances.
We can hopefully expect a Greatest Hits-styled stroll through his 20 years of performing original works. Poems that rhyme, at least some of the time, poems with heart and hope, poems that are grim but beautiful.
