LitCrawl is a series of literary events in Wellington across November 8-11 (you can check out my recent podcast with the event’s co-creators to get the full run-through of this year’s program).
Lit-Sync For Your Life is the brain-child of this year’s guest curator Chris Tse (and you can listen to my podcast with Chris from earlier this year to find out so much about him).
Lit-Sync For Your Life features three writers and three drag performers – the category for the performances: Literary Realness.
I’m the thorn between two roses here, Pip Adam and Tayi Tibble are the other writers chosen for this event. The drag performers are Bunny Holiday, Harlie Lux and True d’Heaux.
Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race will know what to expect from the lip-sync portion of the event. The three drag performers will be interpreting a song – performing their version of it in the time-honoured lip-sync style. But ahead of each song performance the three writers will read a piece – each piece of work, or pieces of work will come from the chosen song; be a reaction to or inspired by the music.
Chris Tse has chosen the songs for us. (I don’t know what the other writers are wrestling with…nor by the way, what the fuck I’m going to do?!)
I’m excited about this event, honoured to have been asked – but I’m nervous-as; I mean Pip wrote The New Animals! And Tayi wrote one of the best books of poetry I’ve read in ages!
All I’ve ever done is fuck off a few local bands. And Robbie Williams. And document my record collection…
Jesus. Shit. I’m bricking it just a bit.
Anyway, here’s some more information about the event here.
