A Creature I Don’t Know
This is Marling’s third album – and she continues to grow and impress with each release.
Only just 20, the British singer/songwriter’s musical heroes are Joni Mitchell and Neil Young and she wears those (rather than her heart) on her sleeve. Powerful songs that belie the age of the writer, this will please fans, naturally, but it could certainly win over new converts.
There are traces of Leonard Cohen in some of the material, of Mitchell (frequently) and there’s a confidence here, on every track, that you hardly ever hear from someone so young.
Laura Marling is already amazing and getting better not only with each album but with each listen. I’m hooked.
