The Smooth Jazz EP
It’s not so much that I like this band, more a case of liking that they feel the need to exist – and to continue doing whatever it is they do. Some sort of cruel-minded/kind-hearted prank of art-pop meets satire malarkey, quite possibly. Or something (occasionally) like that I suppose. It’s anyone’s guess really, including their own.
But there are times when I hear something by Gold Medal Famous and I figure it at least answers the question – no one else is asking – about what Chris Knox’s love of Mark E. Smith and my own love of The Wendyhouse might sound like when squished together.
This is the band’s shortest offering to date so it’s easily their best. And maybe even my favourite. There’s even some sense of musical nuance sliding in and around the joke/literally spot-on title. Not sure how they managed that but good on them!
