We went to see Anika Moa – it was me and my cousin Liam and my mum and dad. On the way, we saw Anika Moa’s car – and I got my picture taken with it. I was a little bit nervous about the show – when I got in I was very scared because I saw a witch on the balloon and so I thought that a witch would be in it.
But it wasn’t scary at all – and the witch was actually nice. I have seen Anika Moa two other times. The first time was at Slow Boat Records – and I liked it. She played songs from her ‘Bubbas’ albums and I like those songs.
At Slow Boat she played Chop Chop Hiyaa – “chop/chop/chop/chop/chop/chop/chop/chop/HIYAA! Hiyaa!” –
and she sung Taniwha, Taniwha –
“Taniwha, Taniwha, where are you? I’m not scared of your hairy face…everyone says that you’re the hairiest beast and I want you to meet my friends and family too”.
We also saw Anika Moa at The Opera House with my friend Eddie. This was quite a scary show because there was a witch and a Taniwha playing drums. And Anika Moa played about 100 songs, maybe 200?
So this time Anika was just on stage with her guitar and the witch played a guitar and a trumpet.
My favourite songs were ‘Taniwha, Taniwha’, ‘Tahi, Rua, Toru, Whā, Rima, Ono, Whitu, Waru, Iwa-Tekau, Iwa-Tekau’ and ‘Animals In My Room’ which goes – “thereeeeeeeeee’s a monkey in my room, and he’s eating all my food, well I really don’t know, but I wish that he’d go – there’s a monkey. In. My. Room”.
And “thereeeeeeeee’s a doggie in my room and he’s eating all my food, and I really don’t know, but I wish that he’d go – there’s a doggie. In. My. Room”.
And “thereeeeeeeee’s a chicken in my room and he’s eating all my food, and I really don’t know, but I wish that he’d go – there’s a chicken. In. My. Room”.
Before the show started we had to wait for a while, but I got a lemonade – so I was very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very happy about that!
I danced and sang the songs. And I liked it.
I wish that the show was out on DVD so I could watch it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.
Anika, can you please make me a DVD – the same one that you put on in the school holidays on Saturday in Wellington?
