Coming up at Bodega there’s a post-punk tribute night celebrating Britain’s finest hour (year) in music.
UK 79 will feature the music of Joy Division, The Clash and The Cure as performed by experienced covers bands Permanence (Joy Division), Wazzo Clash (The Clash) and Splintered In Her Heard (The Cure). It’s $15 on the door or just $10 if you pick up your tickets now (click the link there for info and pre-sales).
It’s R-18 entry – at Bodega – with doors at 9.00pm. The gig starting at 9.30pm.
I’ll be on hand to play some favourites on the decks from when the doors open and
in-between bands, playing the songs from influences and antecedents and at the end of the night there’ll be synth-pop and post-punk and party tunes for a continued celebration.
Around the same time last year Splintered In Her Head performed their Cure trilogy and it was a great show (and I was lucky to be involved in that also).
Wazzo Clash I’ve heard good things about – and am looking forward to seeing. Finally.
And Permanence are a Christchurch-based act, making the journey up to Wellington for this event obviously.
So if you agree that 1979 was a special year in (British) music you’ll want to get along to this kick-ass tribute.
