I’ve been lucky enough to hear Introducing Darren Watson – it is Darren’s finest album to date, some of his very best work. There are reminders here too of his sound dating back to Smokeshop, but he’s always moving forward and the album feels – in some sense – like a musical autobiography.
These songs are going to sound so great live.
I’m honoured to be playing some records at the end of the Wellington show – all blues and roots, R’n’B and soul – the good stuff. I’ll be on after 10.15pm.
I’ve thought for some time now that Darren is one of our finest, one of the best players and with such a deep love and respect and knowledge for not just the blues but so many great songwriters and players across so many genres. He’s given a lot back as educator in a teaching capacity, through his discussions on radio and as someone out there gigging and recording. He not only works tirelessly he’s really, really good!
So check out the shows in Auckland or Wellington, buy the album (released Friday, November 7) and check out Darren Watson’s website for any further details.
