Theo Keating has a couple of DJ nom-de-plumes and as Fake Blood he offers up this mix album, the latest in the ongoing Fabriclive series.
Seemingly interested in the crossroads were slightly oddball electro meets house, Fake Blood’s set starts off with some quirky, snappy cuts via Brodinski, RVBRA and Drums of Death and settles into something a little bit more house-shaped with a Nightmares on Wax remix, Mesa & King and Mumbai Science before getting playful and jazzy with his own remix of The Black Ghosts’ Forgetfulness, Boy 8-Bit’s Night Terrors and House Syndicate’s Jam The Mace.
Towards the very end of this epic 30-track mix the Fake Blood production, Wait A Minute is a happy-house flashback married up with Kraftwerkian textures across an almost big-beat groove, which moves effortlessly into the big finale, Mossing by Volta.
It’s a bit like a Ritalin-dosed run through old house records. I’d like to meet the person that could tweet this setlist. And when I say I’d like to meet the person I would likely shoot first then run to the car.
I can’t say I enjoyed any of this. At all. (Actually, I kinda dug the Jam The Mace remix). I made it through though and out the other side. I’m still here. But then, so is this album.
