Toward The Low Sun
This is the first Dirty Three album in five years, understandable given the Australian trio is now scattered around the world with violinist Warren Ellis based in Paris drummer Jim White in New York and guitarist Mick Turner the only one remaining in Melbourne.
Piano plays a part in the sound of this new album with both Turner and Ellis tickling the ivories, tinkling improvisations are coloured in and around by White’s idiosyncratic drumming.
The post-rock textures move from abrasive to soothing, often in the same piece. One of the band’s best.
