It’s actually staggering – going back through these months, month by month (haha – staggering) – just how many great albums there’s been this year. May started with a couple of the recent gems from Rattle – I paid tribute to Rattle over at Blog On The Tracks today – and then on through so many amazing albums. A likely contender for album of the year is Sun Kil Moon’s Benji. And the nicest surprise arrival this year was possibly the new Natalie Merchant record. A stunner. Good things, really good things take time. So many artists taking time and then releasing wonderful records this year.
Click on this link to be taken to a summary of all the best reviews I wrote for the month of May, 2014. By best I mean not just positive but the rave reviews, the albums I reckon are worth hearing; worth having.
You’ll find reissues, compilations, EPs and live albums – as well as full-length studio releases. Most of the material here was released in 2014 but in some cases it was released in 2013 and only made it to me this year – or I only (finally) got to it this year.
