Book Preview: Is It Bedtime Yet? – by Emily Writes and Friends

Arriving later this week Is It Bedtime Yet? is the brand new book by Emily Writes. She of Rants In The Dark. This time however Emily has some friends along. I’m even one of them!

Is It Bedtime Yet’s subtitle is Parenting…the hilarious, the hair-raising, the heart-breaking – it’s a collection of stories, taken in large part from the pages of Spinoff Parents (the section Emily Writes edits for The Spinoff).

The book is a companion volume to Emily’s early Rants – but more than that it’s a companion to parents up at 1am or 5am or for all hours in-between, it’s a companion forthose worried about missed milestones or wanting to find a voice of reason, for those hopeful to share a laugh at the end of a frustrating day, to get a new perspective, to find a bit of back-up. It’s not an advice book – it’s a collection of columns, the topic, broadly, is parenting.

My piece included in this book is about our decision to only have one child.

Other stories are lighter, more whimsical. Some are far heavier. All are worth reading.

A great gift for new parents, a nice bit of light reading to dip in and out of – the book is launched at Wellington’s Unity Books this Thursday, July 26 from 6pm and then again in Auckland at the Mt Eden Village Centre at 3.30pm, Sunday, July 29.

For more about Emily and the book see here.

I also have recorded two podcasts with Emily Writes – you can listen to them here and here.
