Billy Talent is the name of a Canadian punk-rock ensemble and Dead Silence follows three self-titled albums. Follows them down a pit to where some sick, twisted individual decided to experiment by cross-pollinating albums by the bands Live and Green Day.
It’s an ew from me on most of the tracks here, sorry. Actually, why am I apologising? I’m not the one that made this mess – I just had to listen to it. As the album battles on – searching, seeking, hoping to find something vaguely melodic in and around the fey scream-whines I think of Billy Gould, the bassist from Faith No More. So very good.
I think about Billy Idol with his Rebel Yell – if he were here now I’d probably cry (for) more, more, more.
Did you know that if you say certain lines from Dr Seuss in the right way you can make them seem like Bill Manhire might have written them? Did you know that then or did you know that now? Did you, would you, could you, imagine that, somehow? Are you sure? As sure as azure?
Anyway, while enduring this I enjoyed thinking about some Billys with (actual) talent. It blocked out an album that’s title seems to know the required antidote.
