It’s the return of the Auckland Writers Festival and what a line-up, see the full list of events here. Over 100 events across a handful of days and featuring “the mother of feminism” Gloria Steinem, author Jeanette Winterson, comedian, writer and bird-watcher, Bill Oddie, and ex-politician, former Midnight Oil frontperson and environmentalist, Peter Garrett.
Well, that’s just for starters.
There’s also Man Booker prize winner, Marlon James, New Zealand’s greatest writer – Steve Braunias, and legendary playwright David Hare.
From individual sessions through to panel events there are dozens of must-see/must-hear gigs. And of course so much reading to get done between now and then.
I was lucky to catch a couple of sessions at last year’s Auckland Writers Festival – quite by fluke, really. And it was an amazing festival to check in on. I hope to get to some of this year’s events. It seems to – somehow – get better each and every year, the net is cast wider, the audiences continue to grow. A wonderful celebration of all the good works and words and worlds.
