Wizard Tone Records
Australian multi-instrumentalist Adam Page here offers a very personal record, a very different sort of album from him – a set of solo pieces performed by Page using a variety of Native American Flutes – all expertly crafted by Todd Chaplin of Southern Cross Flutes in NZ.
So where, elsewise, you’d hear Page looping and noodling, creating funk from household items, making mad symphonies across so many instruments – capturing magic as it hangs in the air – here it’s about devotion, calming, soothing pieces all written and played in dedication to his child.
I’ve been playing this album as an early-morning meditation backdrop.
In that sense it’s similar to some of the work Rob Thorne is doing. Where this has a different energy and flow about it some of the results may find a kind of crossover; a similar audience exists I’m sure.
Available via the artist’s Bandcamp page as either a limited, numbered CD or as a download this is a beautiful set of records; tranquillity, space, allow this to be the soundtrack for you in-the-moment morning mantra or for your after-work wind-down; however you wish to hear it this album exists in its own space, its own special place. Bring a bit of yourself to it. It will offer a lot for anyone willing to receive.
