Why? Why not? It’s Friday. I found this picture (or rather it found me). I then started thinking about it – and I like the idea of not only the fact that you’re stuck in a house (practical, there would be electricity) but also three days is surely a near-eternity in these days of low-attention span. People never want to commit to hypotheticals – not sure why. They’re mean to (just) be a bit of fun. People tell you, in earnest, “I could never pick just one”. Of course you can – it’s just a bit of a game, a bit of silliness. In this case a chance to share a favourite album – and maybe a story around what you find so enticing, exciting, compelling, rewarding about that album.
Committing to a hypothetical that lasts just three days, rather than the potential eternity of the desert island, seems do-able.
Also, I had thought of re-doing the desert island theme – and asking about one favourite must-have album the other week (when I saw the other picture presented here). It was meant to be an image showcasing record crates but what spoke to me was the inclusion of only Talking Heads’ Remain in Light. In fact I had posted this shot Facebook and more than one person had commented something along the lines of, “Well, if you could only have one record…”
Remain In Light is a good answer to this question.
And if I had to pick something else right now I’d go with The Puddle’s Secret Holiday/Victory Blues. I already knew this album, had a digital copy of it but just recently I received a copy of the album – the record – and it’s been on one of the turntables in the house ever since. For days on end it was part of the playlist, that beguiling intro, Decline To Fall, the hook. From there, lured, intrigued. I could spend three days happily listening to this record over and again.
But what would be your reason for sticking with just one album for three days? Is it because of something the album means to you, a story around it perhaps? Or is it simply because of the music? And what would the album be that you’d select? If you were locked in the house for three days with just one album what would that album be?
