The Nudge, Dark Arts (2017)
I’ve liked Wellington band The Nudge in the past – but I haven’t listened to them enough to be a massive fan. That changed somewhat with the delivery of their second album – a copy of the vinyl dropped around to the house with the suggestion that I give it plenty of listens. And so I did. Over and again. For it’s been created specifically for the vinyl format, a side-long track and two other long songs too – well one is standard song-length I guess. But it’s an epic – three tracks spanning the full album length. I love it – and I said so, as effusively as I could really and now that the ‘assignment’ has been marked, completed, ticked off, signed off, I’m still going; still listening, still enjoying the prog flavours and the funk elements and the precision engineering/production, the masterful – well – mastering and layering and arrangements. It’s a big listen – so much in it. And it’s really terrific. A real treat to have this, to feel like I have discovered new music – new to me.
