Kenny Clare & Ronnie Stephenson, Drum Spectacular (1967)
I can’t say I knew much of anything about Kenny Clare or Ronnie Stephenson – but I have a bit of a drum-battle albums festish; the Rich and Roach ones, and others…and now I guess I satisfy that occasional itch, mostly, through YouTube clips rather than sitting down with an old album. But this one – British players, Clare and Stephenson were both in demand across the 60s in particular as session guys and jazzers, mostly – contains traces of actual “Music”; isn’t just a giant big, er, whack-off! I saw the cover a while back, that sold me – well, technically, not quite…it was a couple of months on that I returned to grab it. Sean O’Kane is a guy with a cool music blog – like the Vinyl Countdown he catalogues his records; writes about why he has them, how they’ve come to him and so I’ll share his recent post about this very album for some more background. Anyway, I’m pleased to have this. I dig it. Good fun, and some great playing.

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
